About Musgraves Consulting
Musgraves Consulting was started in 2023 with the goal of providing world-class material science expertise to companies of all sizes.
The founder, J. David Musgraves has decades of experience in material science ranging from small academic labs to large optical systems manufacturing floors.
He has a PhD in Material Science from the University of Arizona, where his research focused on the use of Raman spectroscopy and Density Functional Theory to observe and model the catalysis of chemical reactions by UV lasers.
Following a stint as a Research Assistant Professor at Clemson University, he left in order to spin off his chalcogenide glass manufacturing company, IRradiance Glass, where he served as President and CEO from the startup to the sale of the company.
After IRradiance Glass was acquired by Rochester Precision Optics, David spent four years there as the Director of Research and Development, overseeing pilot-line glass production, advanced lens system design and advanced metrology projects.
During this time, David served as the Chief Editor for the Springer Handbook of Glass, a definitive textbook examining the full breadth of glass science and applications, which includes over 50 chapters from world-renowned experts in the field.
